I'm Brett Word, founder of Word Reliability. I spent two decades operating power plants and industrial facilities before I started this business, and that operator background is what shapes every engagement I deliver.

My career started in the U.S. Navy as a gas turbine technician and Central Control Room operator, maintaining critical power generation equipment in high-demand environments. I also served as a Search and Rescue Swimmer, work that taught me how to perform under pressure when the stakes are real and there's no margin for the wrong answer.

After the Navy, I spent the next two decades inside combined cycle power plants, waste-to-energy facilities, and large-scale industrial utility systems. I worked directly with the equipment most consultants only read about: boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, HRSGs, and compressed air systems. I started as an operator and advanced into leadership, managing plant operations, building maintenance strategies, leading outages, and driving reliability and efficiency improvements across complex energy systems.

I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, focused on strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and energy systems optimization. The degree complements the operator background, giving me the framework to think about facilities at a system level, not just at the asset level.

Today, that combined background, Navy discipline, two decades of plant operations, and a formal energy systems education, is what shows up in every Word Reliability engagement. When I walk a facility, I'm not pattern-matching what I read in a textbook. I'm recognizing the same systems I ran. And the recommendations I write reflect what I'd have actually done if I were still running them.
